Tobias now trains with the national team. He will be training in Spain with a group of three sub-2:13 marathoners for four weeks or so, and then flying to Mexico to train at altitude for up to four months. Then the group flys back to Europe for a major marathon in the summer/fall. His training has been pretty interesting so far... around 3 hours of aqua-jogging a day, core work, weights, and other plyometrics. Tobias does lots of downhill running (his coach, who is a former two-time Olympic marathon Gold medalist, told him he needs to lengthen his stride), and a crazy 200 meter repeat workout twice a week. The workout consists of 20 x 200 meters (the "on" repeats have to be at or under :30), jogs a 400 and then does the whole thing over again. Then he usually does a tempo workout which consists of a 10km in 32:20, and then a 5 min. break before doing another 10km that has to be faster than the first. He might be around the area sometime in the spring to a track time trial (maybe Hillsdale or somewhere else).

Tobias just informed me today that instead of going to Mexico for a training camp, he and the others will be headed to Kenya to train with a elite running group there.
