This year is turning out to be an interesting year in the Great Lakes Region. As always we have Calvin as a 99% lock as team champions and likely repeating as National Champions. Everything that happens after that is totally up in the air.
Ohio Northern has been consistently the 2nd ranked team in the region all year and with 6 guys under 26 minutes are the 11th ranked team in the nation.
Heidelberg was a team that seemed to be slipping a couple weeks ago but last week at their conference meet edged out Mount Union for second to Ohio Northern. Mount Union has looked solid for the entire season with a couple very good front runners and a solid pack. Heidelberg has two of the top returners in the region but lack a 5th runner that might hurt them in a large meet like regionals. Both teams has jumped back and forth in the rankings and currently sit 23rd and 24th in the nation.
Case Western Reserve is the last of the nationally ranked teams and is a team that I do not personally know much about. They have ran strong against all of the top teams in the region and they have a strong pack that seems to pull them through their meets. They come into regionals ranked 29th in the nation.

These next five teams are currently ranked 6-9 in the region and are fighting for a chance to make it to nationals.
Otterbien is the 4th team out of the Ohio Athletic Conference and did not seem to have a good meet at conference. They have been a good team all year but could be falling back. They have a solid #1 but four and five man is lacking and they will be hurt by this fact.
Depauw another strong team has been the top team in Indiana this year beating Anderson, Tri-State, and Wabash. They have Dusty Kime as a strong front runner and a decent pack behind him. Look for them to have a good race at Regionals.
Anderson solid team led by senior Sean Hudson who is one of the best in the region. They are really strong through three runners but after that fall off some. They have had some consistency problems on the team and they will all have to run well for them to make it to nationals.
This year will be Tri-States first year competing at regionals and we are hoping to make it a good experience. We were hit with injuries early but now everyone is running on all cylinders. We have had three different front runners this year and had a pack time of 30 seconds in our last two meets. Everyone in our top five is capable of running sub 26 it just has to happen.

These next three teams are tough to make a decision on about how they will run.
Denison has been 10th ranked most this season and have a solid front runner but are lacking the next four to be ranked higher in the region. Last week they beat out Wabash at their conference.
Wabash has also been 10th ranked most the season and have huge contributions from freshman Seth Einterz. If they can get Sam Compton-Craig back up with Seth they will be tough to beat the only thing holding them back is they only have 8 guys on their team and their 5th man is too far back.
Hope is a team that not many will think of but they have run great a couple times this year. They took 3rd in the MIAA behind Calvin and Tri-State their front runner Rob Bailey is very good and they are as deep as anyone. Last year they were 5th at regionals and missed going to by 15 pts, look for them to peak at the right time and have a great race.
There is the run down of the top 12 teams in the region expect 4 teams to make it to nationals for sure and possibly a 5th team depending on how other regions run. Calvin's course is flat and fast with only one hill that gets ran twice, and with the support that Calvin has as a team expect tons of people at the meet making the atmosphere much better. Expect lots of PR's and upsets look for cold weather with a chance of snow.
Good luck to all the teams competing

Meet is at Calvin. Flat course decent amt of loops and one hill that you run twice. Overall fast course just look at Calvin Invite and Pre-Regional times.

According to Austen's parents, Curt finished in 12th place in a time of 25:?? (maybe even under 25). They are pretty sure Curt has qualified Nationals! Austen finished just off his PR in 27:30. Great job guys!

Curt Daniels and Mike Cole are already in Minneapolis! I'm pretty pumped for this weekend. I leave with a carload of guys around noon tomorrow. It should be great times. Also good luck to the NAIA MIB runners in Kenosha. Hopefully somebody can bring home an All American award!
