Just surfin the web and I found this article. Can someone who is more familiar with NAIA rules tell me if this will change anything for cross-country? naia.cstv.com/genrel/100207aal.html

Yes Austen, this will change the NAIA Cross-Country National qualification steps. Instead of having a regional meet, where the first place team automatically qualifies for Nationals, the conference meet will be used as the final step before Nationals. So now it has become extremely more important to win conference.

How do you NAIA guys feel about this? I don't think I would like it. How many conferences are in the NAIA, and what if some are extremly weak or extremly strong? Do they still take some at large teams?

Even though I feel we can compete very well with the new format, I don't like it. The point of the new format is to provide financial benefits, create more equal opportunities to qualify, and to shorten the tournament series. However, the toughest region's usually break down into one or two tough conferences, so this is actually making it harder for the good teams in better conferences and much easier for the teams in weak conferences. Oh well, we will try it out next year and see how it works out. Just imagine if that format is the one we followed this year. With only one team getting out for sure, Aquinas, Cornerstone, and Tech would have it pretty hard.
